Job Overview

  • This vacancy is to cover all ABUHB sites including in Ebbw Vale, Ystrad Mynach and Newport

We are seeking motivated and reliable Facilities Operatives to join our Bank Facilities team across various sites within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board

These are varied and essential support roles, helping to ensure our hospitals run safely, efficiently and compassionately. You will work flexibly across a range of facilities functions, including domestic cleaning, catering services, and hospital Portering, with full training provided.

You will be a key part of a large multidisciplinary team delivering high‑quality services to patients, visitors and staff, while upholding the Health Board’s values, dignity, and infection prevention standards.

Unsocial Hours Enhancements

In addition to basic salary, the following Agenda for Change unsocial hours enhancements apply:

  • Nights (8.00pm – 6.00am): Time + 41%
  • All day Saturday: Time + 41%
  • All day Sunday (and Public Holidays): Time + 83%

These enhancements apply where shifts are worked within the stated periods and can increase take home pay.

Main duties of the job

Depending on service need, your duties will include some or all of the following:

Domestic Services

Delivering high standards of cleaning across patient and non‑patient areas

Working to agreed cleaning schedules and outcome‑based standards

Carrying out routine, specialist, discharge and rapid‑response cleaning

Safely using cleaning equipment, machinery and approved chemicals

Catering

Prepare basic food items (e.g., sandwiches, salads, beverages)

Pick and pack regeneration food trollies,

Monitor and record all food temperatures

Maintain excellent standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and infection control, following policies and procedures

Carry out cleaning duties in kitchens, ward pantries and service areas

Support retail catering services, including till operation and customer service

Maintaining stock levels and safe storage of provisions, equipment and materials

Working closely with clinical teams and Facilities colleagues

Portering

Transporting patients including sensitive transfers

Transportation of goods, specimens, blood products, equipment and linen across hospital sites

Waste management collection and environmental duties, including litter collection

Receipt and disturbing, receiving and distributing goods

Treating patients, visitors and staff with courtesy, dignity and respect
