Role Description This is a part-time, on-site Catering Assistant role based in York. The Catering Assistant will support the preparation and presentation of food and beverages for meetings, events, and internal functions, following agreed menus and service standards. Responsibilities include setting up service areas, replenishing food and drink, maintaining cleanliness of kitchen and serving spaces, and ensuring high hygiene standards. The role involves welcoming guests, providing friendly and efficient service, handling basic questions about menus or dietary requirements, and promptly addressing guest needs. The Catering Assistant will also assist with stock rotation, basic ordering support, and end-of-day cleaning and breakdown of catering areas, working closely with colleagues and supervisors to deliver a consistent, professional service.
Qualifications
- Strong food preparation skills, including basic cooking, plating, and safe handling of ingredients.
- Solid understanding of hygiene and food safety standards, including cleanliness, sanitization, and safe storage practices.
- Proven customer service experience with a focus on hospitality, guest satisfaction, and professionalism.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with guests, colleagues, and supervisors in a clear and courteous manner.
- Experience in food service, such as buffet setup, serving food and beverages, and clearing tables, is highly desirable.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry catering equipment, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong teamwork skills, reliability, punctuality, and a positive, proactive attitude.
- Previous experience in catering, hospitality, or events is an advantage; food safety or hygiene certification is beneficial.
