JOB DESCRIPTION

The Barista at Earth Roastery is responsible for delivering high-quality coffee and beverages, maintaining inventory accuracy, supporting light kitchen operations, and ensuring excellent customer service. The role includes preparing coffee, specialty teas, fresh juices, signature beverages, mocktails, sandwiches, and maintaining cleanliness, food safety, and operational standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coffee & Beverage Preparation

  • Prepare espresso-based beverages according to Earth Roastery standards (espresso, cappuccino, latte, flat white, etc.).
  • Dial-in espresso daily to ensure correct grind size, extraction time, and flavor balance.
  • Prepare pour-over, batch brew, and other manual brewing methods as required.
  • Steam milk and prepare beverages with proper texture and temperature.
  • Maintain consistency in taste, presentation, and portion size.

2. Bartending & Signature Beverage Preparation

  • Prepare mocktails, specialty drinks, and signature beverages according to approved recipes.
  • Mix, shake, stir, and garnish beverages with attention to detail and presentation.
  • Prepare iced drinks, flavored sodas, infused waters, specialty cold brews, and creative beverage options.
  • Ensure proper measurement and portion control for syrups, purees, and flavorings.
  • Maintain freshness and proper storage of fruits, herbs, and garnishes.
  • Keep the beverage station clean, organized, and fully stocked.
  • Suggest new beverage ideas aligned with Earth Roastery concept and seasonal promotions.

3. Specialty Tea & Other Beverages

  • Prepare specialty tea beverages according to approved recipes and brewing standards.
  • Control brewing temperatures, steeping times, and presentation.
  • Prepare fresh juices, smoothies, and cold beverages while maintaining hygiene standards.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of tea leaves, syrups, and juice ingredients.

4. Kitchen & Food Handling

  • Prepare sandwiches, light meals, and café food items following SOPs and recipes.
  • Handle basic kitchen equipment safely (toaster, blender, etc.).
  • Ensure proper food preparation, portion control, and presentation.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and temperature control procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen counters, tools, and storage areas.

5. Inventory & Stock Control

  • Monitor daily stock levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, tea, food items, beverage ingredients, and disposables.
  • Conduct daily and weekly inventory counts as assigned.
  • Report low stock, damages, or expiries to the Branch Supervisor or Café Manager.
  • Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) and proper storage practices.
  • Assist in receiving, checking, and storing deliveries.

6. Customer Service & Order Handling

  • Greet customers professionally and take orders accurately.
  • Provide product knowledge and beverage recommendations.
  • Handle customer feedback, complaints, and special requests politely.
  • Ensure quick and efficient service during peak hours.
  • Maintain positive guest interaction to enhance overall customer experience.

7. Cash Handling & POS

  • Operate the POS system accurately.
  • Handle cash and card transactions responsibly.
  • Follow company procedures for cash control and reporting.

8. Cleanliness, Hygiene & Safety

  • Maintain cleanliness of coffee bar, beverage station, kitchen, dining area, and equipment.
  • Perform opening and closing cleaning duties as per checklist.
  • Follow personal hygiene, food safety, and health regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with local municipality and food safety standards.

9. Equipment Care & Maintenance

  • Clean and maintain coffee machines, grinders, brewers, blenders, juicers, and beverage equipment daily.
  • Identify and report any equipment malfunction immediately.
  • Follow proper usage and safety guidelines for all equipment.

10. Teamwork & Compliance

  • Work closely with the barista team, kitchen staff, and supervisors.
  • Follow Earth Roastery SOPs, recipes, and brand standards.
  • Support training of junior team members when required.
  • Adhere to company policies, attendance, and workplace conduct rules.

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; hospitality or beverage certification is an advantage.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a café, coffee shop, or beverage outlet (freshers with strong training may be considered).
  • Strong knowledge of espresso extraction, milk steaming, and manual brewing methods.
  • Ability to prepare specialty beverages, mocktails, and signature drinks with consistency and high presentation standards.
  • Basic kitchen and food preparation knowledge.
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Friendly, professional, and customer-focused attitude.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure during peak hours.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to handle cash and card transactions responsibly.
